Zamfara APC executives not dissolved, says Shuaibu

Deputy National Chairman (North) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Lawal Shuaibu

As controversy continues to trail management of primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party’s Deputy National Chairman, North, Senator Lawal Shuaibu has refuted claim by the National Working Committee (NWC) that the Zamfara State Executive of the party has been dissolved.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena was reported to have said the state’s executives had been dissolved following the crisis rocking the party.

But in a statement, yesterday, Shuaibu said: “The news going round that the APC Executive has been dissolved is not true.

The true situation has been that there is a subsisting court order asking the disagreeing parties in a petition challenging legality of the process through which the State Executive emerged, and the court issued an order to maintain the status quo and should not take any step that would render nugatory the subject of the litigation, which is the party’s position before June 5 2018.

“In that regard, the NWC and the party in the state were served and the National Headquarters can, therefore, not take any action except to ensure members of the Executives comply.”

Speaking on what transpired during the primaries in the state, he said: “When the Election Committee went to Zamfara State to conduct the primaries, the members took sensitive materials along and deposited them with the state’s Commissioner of Police.

“They called for a stakeholders’ meeting in which all aspirants were present, as well as heads of security agencies in the state.

“An agreement was arrived at by all aspirants to the effect that teachers be recruited to conduct the primaries in each ward.
