Radio host Oriyomi Hamzat plans DNA test outreach in Ilorin


Oriyomi Hamzat, the radio host of “Kokoro Alate,” a family-related issues program aired on Agidigbo 88.7 FM in Ibadan, Oyo State, has announced plans to organise a free DNA outreach in Ilorin, Kwara State.


This was disclosed in a video posted on the X handle of a user known simply as Oluwafifehanmi.

During one of his programs, Hamzat stated in the video that the free DNA test outreach would last for two weeks, describing it as a gift from him.

Speaking in Yoruba, Hamzat said, “For two weeks, all the DNA tests that we will do in Ilorin will be free. I’m here to give you all a free gift: free DNA tests, free in Ilorin.”


According to a Guardian report, in 2021, Nigeria was grouped among countries with a very high incidence of paternity fraud, with statistics placing the country second in the world, only behind Jamaica.

Additionally, a 2023 feature article in Guardian Life reported that a leading Lagos-based DNA testing centre found that Lagos accounted for the highest percentage of tests, with 82.89 per cent of the total conducted between July 1, 2022, and June 30, 2023.

Oyo State was second with 3.29 per cent, followed by Ogun State with 3.07 per cent, Abuja with 2.63 per cent, and Rivers State with 2.41 per cent.
