Reps’ minority leader, Rivers embattled Speaker, others in solidarity walk for Wike

Tension as explosion allegedly kills protester

The Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda; embattled Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, and embattled Chairman of Obio Akpor Council, George Ariolu, and their supporters held a solidarity walk, yesterday, in support of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, while commending the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for maintaining law and order in the state.

In his address, Chinda commended the IGP for maintaining peace and order, stating that there can be no peace without justice and obedience to rule of law.

“We are in support of governance by law not by impunity. We are in support of the position of the IGP,” he said. Addressing the crowd, Amaewhule commended the people of Obio/Akpor for their peaceful disposition, saying that they believe in the rule of law and the Constitution of Nigeria.

He said: “Nobody is above the law. We stand by democracy, the principle of separation of power. We cannot allow a breakdown of law, the governor cannot choose which law to obey and which not to obey.”

Also, the Chief of Staff to the FCT Minister, Chidi Amadi, stated that the gathering was an affirmation of trust and support to the President, Bola Tinubu, and Wike.

MEANWHILE, there was a reported chaos in Port Harcourt, yesterday, following a dynamite explosion, which allegedly killed a middle-aged pro-Wike protester outside the Hotel Presidential around 9:45 a.m. The sudden explosion sparked panic, disrupting the protest and leaving one person dead, whose identity has not been released.

Reacting to the development, the Rivers State Government had directed all public and private owned medical facilities to be on the alert and look out for a young man that may present traumatically dismembered upper body injuries at the facilities, adding that such patients may be the perpetrators of the ugly incident.

Commissioner for Health, Dr Adaeze Oreh, while condemning the explosion, called on members of the public to report anyone seen with serious upper bodily injuries to the police and the Ministry of Health for appropriate measures to be taken.

Meanwhile, when contacted, the Rivers State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said she would get details and get back.
