A coalition of civil society groups on national stability has decried the incessant power outages in the country noting the development runs contrary to the renewed hope agenda of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration.

Led by Comrade Danesi Momoh, the group in a statement argued that with a record six incidents of electricity grid collapse within a quarter of a year, it is clear that the Ministry of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu is “powerless” and has no value addition either to Nigerians in general or the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration in particular.

The group alleged that the level of corruption and compromise within the Ministry and power management system would worsen the situation if drastic measures are not taken by President Tinubu.
The group alleged that the TCN which is the most strategic in the power supply system is heavily infested with corruption and ineptitude.

The group called on Adebayo and the managing director of the transmission company of Nigeria (TCN), Engr. Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz to take the path of honour by resigning their position or be ready to contend with a Civil Society mass action in the days ahead.

Justifying the call for the removal of Adebayo, the group argued: “There is no innovation he has brought and there is no clear policy direction. Indeed, his case will be a true test of President Tinubu’s assessment system for MDAs as was recently launched.

” But he must not be allowed to ruin things more before being shown the way out. At least being relieved of his Ministerial position will enable him concentrate on his Governorship ambition in Oyo State. That is the only thing in his head and mind now. He is not concerned about how to deliver electricity to Nigerians.

“And very unfortunately, rather than using the opportunity he has as a minister to showcase what he can offer the people of Oyo, if given the opportunity to govern, he has instead demonstrated failure and frittered away the goodwill he should enjoy.

” This, he is however doing at the detriment of the progressive attainments of the Tinubu Government and by his ineptitude in the power sector inflicting more injuries on the Nigerian economy.”
