The projects executed included the global grant Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project of renovating toilet facilities, construction of borehole for water and wash-hand basin at Abule Ayo Nursery and Primary School, Bariga.
The club also donated computers to the electronic library of Lanre Awolokun High School, Gbagada aside planting trees at Oduduwa Junior High School, Gbagada.
The President, Rotary Club of Gbagada South, Rotn. Ezekiel Balogun, said that the goal is to keep giving back to the communities and putting smiles on the faces of people.
He added that the club renovated the toilet facilities, provided a borehole and wash-hand basin to ensure a clean learning environment, free from diseases for the students and teachers.
Balogun said that the donation of the e-library and computers was to upgrade the students knowledge on Information technology (IT), as the world has gone digital, while the tree planting was to preserve the environment from the effect of climate change.
The president further explained that the club gave out N300, 000 interest free loans to local market women to boost their businesses.
He assured that the club intends to do more projects before the end of the Rotary year in June 2024.
The District Governor, Rotary International District 9110, Rotn. Ifeyinwa Ejezie, commended the club for its service to humanity.
She said she was optimistic that the projects would boost the learning environment of the students.
The district governor urged the schools to maintain the facilities and guard against their being vandalised. The Education Secretary, Somolu Local Council Education Authority, Mr. Onokoya Dare Martins, thanked the club for the toilet facility, assuring that it would be properly used and maintained.
The Permanent Secretary, Education District 2, Mrs. Anike Adekanye, represented by the Director of Administration, Mr. Popoola Olatunde, appreciated the members of Rotary Club of Gbagada South for helping to revamp facilities in the schools within the education district.
The Principal, Lanre Awolokun High School, Mr. Onifade Ajani, thanked the club for the several projects done in the school, especially the continuous donation of computers to boost the students’ knowledge on Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
The Principal of Oduduwa Junior High School, Gbagada, Mrs. Obafemiesan Bolarinwa, also thanked the club for the trees it planted in the school’s premises, saying they are vital for the health of the teachers and students.
