IT was indeed a rewarding night for Nigerian-born dancehall act, Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie better known as Patoranking, as he emerged the Best New Act Transformed by Absolut at the MTV Africa Music Award (MAMA) 2015.

The event, which took place last weekend at South Africa’s Paradise City in the Kwa Natal-Zulu province, Durban, celebrated successful African musicians and achievers who have made the most impact on youth culture throughout the year.

The keenly competed category sponsored by Absolut Vodka, showcased new talents with the essence of innovation and creativity which is at the core of Absolut Vodka objective.

The category which featured five nominees from South Africa, Angola, Nigeria and Ghana with the aim to drive exposure for new talents outside their countries and help transform artist careers was won by Patoranking.

According to the Marketing Director, Pernod Ricard Nigeria, Sola Oke, who was at the event, “we are very happy to be part of the MAMAs and it has been a great day for African talents with Nigeria leading the lights.

Absolut Vodka’s continuous partnership with the biggest music platform only underscores our support to showcase new and emerging African talents outside their localities to all of Sub-Saharan Africa,” he said.

Oke noted that in line with this year’s sponsorship, the ‘Africa is Absolut’ campaign is designed to recognise and celebrate talents, unique qualities and passions reflected in African artistes, and Nigerian music stars once again maintained their dominance over the African music scene winning seven awards including ‘Best New Act Transformed by Absolut, ‘Best Male Act’, Best Female Act’, ‘Evolution Award’, Song of the Year’, Collaboration of the Year’, and ‘Best Group’ by Patoranking, Davido, Yemi Alade, D’Banj, Mavins, AKA and Burna Boy, P-Square respectively.

All winners of this year MAMAs demonstrated African originality, creativity and stayed true to their style, beliefs and passions, which reflects them as ‘being absolute,” he said.
