Oral B Pledges To Grow Oral Health Awareness In 2016
ORAL B, popular toothpaste brand from the stable of Procter & Gamble, has restated its commitment to promoting dental health awareness among Nigerians as a major goal this year and beyond.
Speaking recently at the Lagos office of Procter & Gamble during an interactive session with some journalists, Oral B Brand Director for Sub-Saharan Africa, Aliza Leferink revealed that a major problem the company has discovered about Nigeria was low awareness in oral health education.
According to Leferink, “one of the things Oral-B wants to do from 2016 is to use our resources to make sure Nigerians are more aware of their oral health because good oral health is super important when it comes to general health, economic and social interaction.”
She said: “The biggest challenge is that most people do not start with prevention. I mean preventive and consistent measures. My experience in Nigeria and indeed quite a number of other African countries is that most people go to the dentist when they have real issues. But by then, most of the damage that could have been prevented is already done. As you know, anyone who isn’t confident in herself cannot perform ultimately on her job. ”
Leferink explained further: “Since we came into the Nigerian market four years ago, we have created a consumer programme called ‘Mobile Dental Clinic”. At the clinic we have a team of experts and trained dentists who educate people in the markets on how to take good care of their oral health and show them demos. Through this programme we have reached millions of Nigerians. We have educated them properly, besides giving them the right tools and knowledge to achieve great oral health. The trained dentists are also available to attend to people, give free dental check-up, and tell them what next to do. This year, we will take it a lot higher.”
