Tonto Dikeh gives back to society, kicks off back to school project

The bedrock of any society is built on concrete educational foundation and the literacy level of its people, and to build a self-sustaining society, enlightenment and education of its people must begin from childhood to build a viable and independent society.

It is to this end, that Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh through her foundation, Tonto Dikeh Foundation (TTDF), is giving back to the society that has helped made her, through educational scholarship initiative tagged ‘Back To School’, which kicked off on Monday, January 23, 2017, to provide support to Nigerian children in their academic endeavour.

The first phase scholarship kicked off with 200 children at the Sunshine People With Disabilities Nursery & Primary School, at Karamajiji Disable Colony, FCT Abuja.

The award-winning actress said the initiative is part of commitment towards empowering the children, youths and giving back to the society, adding that the Foundation’s unflinching commitment has been backed with actions and deeds.

Widely known to walk her talk by giving back to the society in meaningful ways that impact lives positively and in turn lead to growth and development of the nation, the actress of many credit said: “I would have loved to pay the children’s school fees for four years, but I would like to start with paying one year ‎school fees for 200 pupils.”

“An educated child is an asset to society. It is one of the best gifts you can give to vulnerable Nigerians. I will not relent in giving back to society. The spirit of sharing and giving is biblical and it is also an African tradition that generates happiness and ensures social stability in the absence of a formal social security mechanism that caters for the less privileged in our society. We must not forget the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and special persons in our midst and those who have suffered untold hardship as a result of activities of insurgents and terrorists,” she added.

According to her, the ‘Back to School’ initiative is aimed at providing support to Nigerian children in their quest for educational pursuit, stressing that the initiative, in its bid to stretch its hand of generosity to other kids in different state of the federation, has decided to extend the project to Lagos, Rivers, and Delta state.‎
