.Zamfara restricts movement along Katsina, Sokoto borders

Again, security operatives in Kaduna State have foiled an armed robbery attack in Kaduna metropolis, arrested one of the suspects and recovered operational arms.


Besides, the State Police Command stated, yesterday, that it made a significant breakthrough in crime prevention and detection with the arrest of the armed robbery suspect and the subsequent recovery of his operation weaponry.

This was as Zamfara State Government ordered immediate restriction of movement along the state’s borders with Katsina and Sokoto states, to stem crimes.


Kaduna Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Mansir Hassan, said: “Sequel to a report received from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Maraban Jos Division, on March 24, 2024 about 2030 hours, acting on credible intelligence, police operatives arrested one Salim Aliyu, a 22-year-old resident of Badarawa Kwaru in Kaduna North, in possession of one AK-47 rifle with Breach No. 01585, and three rounds of 7.62 x 39mm live ammunition.

“Other items recovered from the suspect include a Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) camouflage singlet and cap, a sharp knife, a flier, a desert handbag, a wallet containing a First Bank ATM card and a complimentary card belonging to a Brigadier General of the Nigerian army”.


According to Hassan, during interrogation, Aliyu confessed to being on a robbery mission to Maraban Jos,” pointing out that the successful operation underscored the Kaduna Police Command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order in the state”.

The Commissioner of Police (CP), Ali Dabigi, commended the swift action of the officers involved and reiterated the command’s determination to rid the state of criminal elements.

Zamfara State Government has ordered immediate restriction of movement along the state’s borders with Katsina and Sokoto states from 7.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m.

The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Manir Haidara, disclosed this to newsmen in Gusau, yesterday.


Haidara noted that the directive was part of the decision of the State Security Council meeting.

“As from today, the state government has ordered restriction of movement along Yankara border of Zamfara with Katsina State and Bimasa Zamfara border with Sokoto State from 7.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m. daily. This is to tackle the incessant kidnapping of travellers along the Sokoto/Gusau/Funtua highway.

“This is part of the state government’s measures to reduce and address kidnapping activities by bandits, especially along highways in the state,” he said.

According to the commissioner, all motorists and travellers are directed to abide by the government order.

“Security agencies are directed to monitor the two borders and ensure full compliance,” he added.
