Skitmaker, Kvng Stefan advises colleagues

Fast-rising skitmaker, Osemwota Odion also known as Kvng Stefan, has admonished pranksters to understand that their followers are smart and not gullible and as such should know when to draw the line in their skits.

Kvng Stefan, in a chat with journalists, noted that the trend of content creators pushing beyond the boundary of reason in trying to go viral needed to be checked through self-censorship.

The Library and Information Science graduate from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, said: “While everyone is at liberty to choose what works best for them, it is also pertinent for skitmakers to exercise caution. Some skits can get really dangerous and we have seen instances where the contexts are not taken into account when people make skits.

“This is why some of my colleagues have gotten into trouble. We need self-censorship and that is what is required to ensure that we do not only run foul of the law but also so that we do not insult the sensibilities of our followers.

“We also have a social responsibility to the people. As much as we are content creators, we are also responsible for shaping popular culture.”

Kvng Stefan noted that the rise of the content industry is attributed to its fluidity in creating messages that resonate with the people, stressing that it was only proper to respect the local context where such messages are created.

“We often see pranks where people are exposed to harm, which is totally uncalled for. It is the responsibility of the content creator to ensure that the message is not lost in an attempt to create content that would go viral,” he added.
