Team beats Abuja U-15 boys, FCT Queens in warm up games

Old timer, Faith Ikidi and Ngozi Ebere have been told to stay away from the Super Falcons camp in Abuja for failing to respond early to the invitation by Coach Florence Omagbemi.

The Falcons are preparing to take on the Teranga Lionesses of Senegal in the CAF Women Cup of Nations qualifier. The 2016 AWC will hold for the first time in Cameroun.

The Senegal women national team defeated Guinea in the preliminary round 4-2 penalty to set up a date with the

Following their progress, the Teranga Lionesses will host the Falcons on April 8 in Dakar and will travel to Abuja for the second leg on April 12.

Omagbemi had extended the invitation to the Sweden-based Ikidi in a bit to reorganize the defence, but the player failed to meet the deadline set by the technical crew.

Speaking with The Guardian yesterday, Omagbemi said: “I actually wanted Faith Ikidi to come and fight for a place in the team, but she told me that her club refused to release her. So, I have told her to stay way. The same goes for Ngozi Ebere and few others who have failed to report to the camp. We don’t have time to wait. We are only expecting Onome Ebi, Desire Oparanozie and Asisat Oshoala to hit the camp latest by Wednesday. They have given me their words, but in the case of Ikidi and Ebere, they were posting me and I am not ready for that now. We have to build a new Super Falcons that all Nigerians will be proud of,” Omagbemi said.

Meanwhile, the Falcons continue their build up in Abuja by winning two friendly matches against Abuja U-15 boys 2-0 and FCT Queens with the same goals margin.

It would be recalled that Super Falcons, led then by coach Christopher Danjuma, crashed out of the Rio 2016 Olympics qualifiers after a disappointing 2-1 defeat in extra-time by Equatorial Guinea.
