Pillars, First Bank basketball teams sure of victory in Lome

Winners of Nigeria Basketball league male and female category, Kano Pillars and First Bank basketball club will face other Africa basketball teams in the FIBA 2016 zone 3 qualifiers, which dunk off today at Stade Eyadema du Togo.

According to the organizers of the event the championship, which had its draws yesterday, the competition will witnessed a large turn out of basketball stakeholders, as the host country has promised to give visitors the best of entertainment.

The tournament will be used as qualifiers for the final phase of the African clubs competition, which is due for Cairo, Egypt, in December. It will see top teams like Benin Republic champions Elan Sportif and ASPAC Basketball Club looking eager to return to the big stage after they last appeared in the African basketball championship in Kigali 2010.

Togolese champions, AS Modele, Customs Braves of Ghana, NIGELEC of Niger Republic as well as Nigeria Customs that is making a debut at the Zonal play-off are also contending in Togo.

Regional champions Kano Pillars of Nigeria have vowed to retain the trophy they won last year in Cotonou, Benin.

The championship ends on October 30.
