Shorunmu cautions against undue pressure on Eagles

super-eaglesFormer Super Eagles Goalkeepers’ Trainer, Ike Shorunmu, has cautioned against putting undue pressure on the Super Eagles as they prepare to confront Egypt in two crucial qualifiers for the Gabon 2017 African Nations Cup billed for Kaduna and Alexandria this weekend.

Shorunmu said the much hype given to the Egyptian side ahead of the encounter was capable of psychologically weighing down the Super Eagles before the game, adding the players should be allowed to focus on the task of beating the North Africans.

He urged the players not to entertain any form of fear before the game, saying that the outcome of the tie depends on the level of seriousness they attached to the game.

“The Super Eagles have what it takes to beat Egypt, but I must warn that the much hype given to the Egyptian team at this moment is not good for the Nigerian players.

“The moment any player is invited for national duty, the player’s attention is already focused on contributing his own quota to win the game by all cost. Already, the Egyptians are also coming to Nigeria with pressure because they also realise that the Eagles have quality players that are experienced and exposed. Playing a high profile game needs total concentration and determination,” he said.
