The Men’s Fellowship of Methodist Church Nigeria D/Line Circuit, Diocese of D/Line, had a three-day Retreat from Friday, September 28 to 30, 2018.

The Theme of the Retreat was “The Ideal Christian Man” Job 1:1. The retreat held at Methodist Church Nigeria, D/Line Cathedral, 1, Ogbia, Street D/Line, Port Harcourt.

According to Chairman of the Retreat Planning Committee, Brother Deji Jegede, the retreat was held out of the need for men in Methodist Church to be exemplary at Home, Church and society.

The D/Line Circuit Men’s Fellowship President, Chief Henry C. Kanu believed that “the retreat will be a turning point in the men’s life.”

The programme was declared open by Very Rev. Peter Dim, the Presbyter of D/Line Circuit.

In his opening Charge, he described an ideal Christian man as having the 4Cs: Control, Commitment, Capability and Consistency.

A Christian Man must have self-control; he must be committed to his family, must be capable to provide for his home and must be consistent in his good lifestyle.

The opening programme featured a session of High Praise led by a Guest Praise Leader, Bro Ikeka Wonodi.

The Guest Speaker for the Retreat, Bro John Jia extolled the qualities of Job, a man who is perfect, upright, feared God and shunned evil.

His riches did not affect his devotion to God. He was committed to his family.

The crisis in the Home, Church and the society will cease, if men are what God destined them to be.

“In our nation today, we are facing crisis because some men have refused to be men.”

John Jia while teaching on Family Life enjoined men not to practise favouritism in their homes, especially when it has to do with their biological children, wards and house helps, as all of them must be treated equally.

He decried a situation where your children will go to bed, while wards of their age in the same house will be awake doing domestic chores deep into the night.

He admonished men to be good examples to their families in honesty, not keeping late nights outside but spend time with them.

The men asked for mercy and grace from God; that He should make them what He destined them to be.

The Thanksgiving service held on Sunday 30th September.

In attendance were the Bishop of D/Line Diocese, Rt. Revd. Dr. Etim Ekong JP, the Lay President of the Diocese, Brother Barieba G.S. Bere, the Presbyter, Very Revd. Peter Dim, other Clergies and the Diocesan Men’s Fellowship President, Brother Udeme Benson.

The Revd. Chinwike Kenechukwu Isaac, who preached on the theme “The Mathematics of Salt and Peace” took his text from Mark 9:50.

According to him, in every relationship which can be employer/staff, husband/wife, parent/children, pastor/ congregation, etc, the duty of each party to the other is the salt to offer and failing in the responsibility will hinder peace.

He admonished that we should impact our generation with our abilities to foster peace.

The high point of the service was the thanksgiving by men of the D/Line Circuit for a successful retreat.

Rt. Rev Dr. Etim Ekong congratulated the Men of D/Line Circuit for a successful retreat and said he believed the men would take their rightful place in the Church by teaching, counseling and being exemplary.
