Profitable wisdom with perpetual freedom – Part 2

Pastor W. F. Kumuyi

The people of the world misunderstand freedom and independence to be liberty to do evil and cause problems for others. But the Lord does not want that to be our lifestyle. Those who pervert freedom and liberty use it “for an occasion to the flesh” or for gratification of the flesh. Sinners, though free from colonial rule, are still “the servants of corruption”.

Freedom from an expert does not translate to freedom from the knowledge, training, instruction, trade and industry received from him. Freedom from a master does not mean freedom from morals and righteousness or from the standards established. Independence from foreign rule does not mean independence from education, civilisation, law and order, standard work ethics, information technology, normal family values, obedience to the law, respect and loyalty in the society.

Perverted freedom and wisdom lead to several vices in the society. One, it leads to indulgence; two, indiscipline; three, indifference to righteousness; four, insecurity; five, insensitivity to the rights and future of others; six, infidelity; seven, injustice. Solomon perverted his own wisdom and it led to the breakup of the nation and made the people to suffer. Lucifer’s perverted wisdom brought untold suffering upon the world.

The perverted freedom and wisdom of sinners also bring untold suffering upon them, their families and people around them, because they live without fear of consequences. “Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me.” True wisdom from God makes us live right but wisdom that makes one live in sin and backslide “descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish” and leads to destruction.

God knows that we cannot do without freedom and wisdom in the Kingdom. Thus, He has provided them for us to obtain and pass to others. King Solomon did not train his son and the leaders around him. He failed to impart these virtues to worthy successors because he was preoccupied with self-indulgence and fleshly gratification.

Believers can be enriched with wisdom in many ways. One, God the Father gives wisdom. Two, God the Son gives wisdom. “For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.” Three, God the Holy Spirit also gives wisdom. “For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom…” Four, the Holy Scriptures gives wisdom. Therefore, we should read, believe, memorise and apply the Word of God to our lives. Five, the desire for heaven grants us wisdom to always be careful of doing foolish things and pray, like the Psalmist, that God should “teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” Six, obedience to the word of God demonstrates true wisdom. Seven, eternal reward inspires faithfulness with divine wisdom.

Freedom must not be the only thing we value; we must also heed the call of God to service. Perverted wisdom should not be employed to abandon the task the Lord wants us to accomplish. Those who refuse to be wise, faithful and obedient will face divine judgment. We have the privilege of making the right choice of possessing real freedom and wisdom to help and lead us on the path of righteousness. A combination of profitable wisdom and perpetual freedom will grant us a productive, pure and progressive life. We must ensure we use the freedom the Lord gives us for His glory.
