AFTER years of upgrading facilities of some faculties and persistent invitation to officials of the National Universities Commission (NUC), by the authorities of the Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri, an accreditation team of the commission led by Prof. Jeremiah Ojediran, is now on assessment tour of the school.

NUC is to ascertain if the school is fit to have its Faculties of Engineering and Medicine accredited for the award of degrees and certificates.

Speaking in Owerri at an interaction between the team and Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, Ojediran, noted that the effort of the state government and the school authorities in putting in place required facilities within a period is commendable.

Though he could not disclose whether the accreditation team would okay the two faculties visited, the leader of the team, however, noted that the school need not ring bell to tell them how much investment they had put in place. He noted that they were in the institution to assess the infrastructure and learning environment, to ensure that they meet with international standards.

In his speech, Okorocha urged all the state governments and the Federal Governments to introduce free education at all levels, stressing that it would afford less privileged ones the opportunity to go to school.

Okorocha noted that while education should be made affordable, it should be provided in a sound environment, stressing that IMSU would in the next two years be an ideal institution.
