In the wake of celebrations that heralded the declaration of New Nigerian People’s Party’s (NNPP) Governorship candidate, Abba Kabir Yusuf, as winner of March 18 election, hoodlums hiding under cover of party supporters, invaded residence of Dauda Adamu Abdullahi (Rarara) on Zoo Road in Kano metropolis.

The ace political singer, Rarara, was at the centre stage of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign, singing at various rallies while the electioneering campaigns lasted.

The news of the burning spread like wildfire in the ancient city, which came shortly after the release of his latest song in praise of Kano Deputy Governor and APC Governorship candidate, Nasiru Yusif Gawuna.

The attack occured few hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Yusuf, the candidate of NNPP governor-elect of Kano State.

In the wake of celebrating the victory of Abba Yusuf, the rampaging youths, in their hundreds, launched simultaneous attacks on the foremost singer’s house and two of his offices along Zoo Road in Kano metropolis.

Rarara was said to have released a song, which did not go down well with some NNPP supporters, who allegedly invaded his house, burnt some vehicles parked at the premises and stole valuables before the police arrived the scene.

According to Kano police statement, “on 20/03/2023 at about 1400hrs, some group of thugs under the cover of celebrating gubernatorial election victory went berserk, stormed and attacked the residence of one Dauda Adamu Abdullahi (Rarara) located at Hausawa Layout, Zoo Road, Kano. Studio located behind Gidan Dan Asabe, Zoo Road, his office named “13×13” Movement, located at opposite Kano Zoo, Zoo Road Kano, burnt and destroyed parts of the buildings. ”

Twenty-One suspects were arrested in connection with the attack at Zoo Road and eight suspects were arrested for the attack and destruction at the Kano Stae APC’s secretariat.

Recovered properties include, ice cream machine, motorcycle hajue-u, hero motorcycle, office chair, LG plasma, one Samsung air conditioner, one refrigerator, one HD camera canon and parts of Mikano generator.

In the statement signed by the police spokesman DSP Abdullahi Haruna, he said, “it is very obvious from the above that these are not either celebrants or members of any political party, but criminals who were out to ensure they cashed on the celebration mood to perpetrate crimes, as such they will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.”

Among the suspects in the police net was a 21 years old Umar Abdullahi, who confessed to the police that he snatched one of the air conditioners from one of the boys that looted Rarara’s house on that day.

He said the police apprehended him while trying to run away with the item. Another suspect, Abubakar Isah, who was caught with video camera during the attack, said he found the camera on the ground when people were running for their dear lives.

The popular singer, who was away when the incident happened, said he lost about N800 million during the attack in two of his offices and his house.

Rarara came to limelight in 2007, when he sang a song in praise of his first political godfather, the then Kano State Deputy Governor, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, who had contested the governorship election and lost to Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The popular Katsina State-born artiste had also pitched his tent with former governors of Kano State, Kwankwaso, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau and the incumbent Ganduje before their political romance turned sour.

In one of his interviews that went viral on Internet, Rarara pointed accusing fingers on two of his colleagues of plotting to bring him down by pitching him against Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State.

According to him, “some of my colleagues, two singers, have taken it upon themselves to pull me down. They should equally know that Governor Ganduje and I are at the top and I have been there with the governor as a shield.

“Therefore, trying to pull me down means doing no good to the governor as such, they should understand that I am far ahead of them.”

He accused the two unnamed singers of going round the state looking for his property so that it would be seized or demolished by government.

“What they failed to understand is that, one day, they may be tenants or neighbours to some of my properties in Kano.”

Rarara was born on September 13, 1986 in Kahuta, Katsina State.

He was sent by his parents to attend Almajirai School. Later, he joined primary school in his hometown before proceeding to Government Secondary School, where he finally got his School Leaving Certificate. He became a popular singer when he relocated to Kano in 2012 to continue with his singing career. He has so far recorded and released more than hundred songs in Hausa language. He was chosen by President Muhammadu Buhari to be the leader of his singing team during 2015 and 2019 political campaign in which he released outstanding songs in support of the president.

Rarara has received awards from top politicians for his music. Amongst his popular songs are: Masu Gudu Su gudu, Sai Baba Buhari, Jagaba Sai ka shiga Villa, Kasim Asiwaju, Sa Kashim Sai Tinubu, Buhari Dodar, Aikin gama ya gama, among others.
