Windstorm kills one, destroys 100 houses in Nasarawa community

One person has reportedly been killed and several others injured following a windstorm, which destroyed over 100 houses in Agbashi community, Doma Local Council of Nasarawa State.

Confirming the incident to newsmen, yesterday, Vice Chairman, Doma Local Council, John Bako-Ari, said the incident occurred Tuesday’s evening.


According to him, over 100 residential houses were destroyed, including the Agbashi Central mosque, part of Pilot Primary School, Agbashi among other public infrastructure.

“It’s true that the windstorm destroyed over 100 houses including, mosque and Primary school. The incident happened yesterday in the evening,” he said.

Also, the acting Chairman, Agbashi Development Association (ADA), Mr Anthony Oshinyeka, described the incident as unfortunate.

According to him, Bassa settlement in Iponu at the outskirt of Agbashi was badly affected as one man lost his life, while seven others were injured.

Oshinyeka called on the state government to urgently intervene to cushion the devastating effect on people, urging good spirited individuals to send immediate relief materials and medical aids to the affected communities.
