Woman killed in accident, man electrocuted to death in Jos

A woman died yesterday, in a motor accident when a tanker ran over a tricycle, popularly called Keke Napep, at Babale community in Plateau State.

The woman who is from Babale died instantly while another woman and the Keke Napep driver sustained serious injuries.
The injured duo were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

An eyewitness who is a resident of Babale, Ajang Solomon said that it took them more than three hours to retrieve the tanker driver who was trapped inside the vehicle.

Solomon added that they had to solicit the help of a crane and another tipper to help lift and pull the head of the tanker before the driver was rescued alive.


The tanker, after squeezing the Keke Napep, somersaulted in the process.
ALSO, the Shere community of Jos East local government of Plateau State was yesterday thrown into confusion as a suspected thief was electrocuted.

The thief was attempting to vandalise and steal electric cables from the pole where the transformer is stationed.
According to sources from the area, the deceased carried out the act in the early hours of yesterday.

Council chairman, Yakubu Ezekiel through his deputy, Ishaku Ajang described the incident as an act of economic sabotage, wondering why such an able-bodied man would engage in such a shameful thing.

He, therefore, cautioned the youths of Shere to be cautious of their actions and refrain from acts of sabotage but to instead protect government property in their areas.

The Engineer in charge of 33 KV Toro Feeder, Mallam Sha’aban Maikudi urged the youth to stay clear of high-tension cables and transformers. The chief in the community, Ada John Haruna, appealed to the government to provide skills acquisition centre to keep the youths busy, just as he promised to be vigilant.
