The Wurkun Youth Association of Nigeria (WUYAN) has called on the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) to urgently implement mechanisms to address the incessant killings in Usmanu village of the Karim-Lamido local government council in Taraba State.

The group expressed concern over the alarming violence, which has led to the wanton destruction of lives, at a world press conference held in Jalingo on Friday.

Led by its National President, Hussaini Zuppai, and its Secretary General, Issah Maiyaki, the association criticised the lack of arrests or prosecutions despite multiple investigations by security operatives.

They stressed the need for the police to intensify efforts to identify and apprehend those behind the killings in the community.

Lamenting how the perpetrators have been having a field day, they passionately urged the police to “as a matter of urgency, address our people on the killings that took place on November 15, 2023, January 11, 2024, and June 2, 2024.”

It would be recalled that the traditional ruler of the village, Alhaji Auwal Abubakar, was gruesomely murdered in his palace earlier this month, and WUYAN expressed sadness that the culprits have not been brought to justice.

Arguing that bringing the perpetrators to justice is crucial for achieving peace in the community and the council at large, they urged the relevant security agencies to insert the right peg in the right hole by going after those making life cumbersome for the villagers.

“The professional expertise of the Nigerian security operatives in detecting and prosecuting crimes should not be undermined as nobody is above the law,” stated WUYAN leaders.

In addition to their demands for justice, the group called for the deployment of more security personnel to the area, asking the state commissioner of police, David Iloyanomon, to draft skilled and well-trained officers to restore peace and order and maintain the dignity of the police in the village.

The association also lauded Governor Agbu Kefas’s efforts towards ensuring peace in the nooks and crannies of the state, highlighting the urgent need for him to ensure additional reinforcement in the village.

The suggestion, if urgently taken into consideration, they believe will go a long way in protecting the lives and property of the residents of the community.
