Right workforce key to national development, says CIPM
The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) has said for Nigeria to attain sustainable national development, there is the need for government to get its workforce right.
It should do this by engaging professionals to manage the affairs of the country in all areas of endeavour.
The CIPM added that government should ensure that those handling the affairs of the country were competent, reputable and with the right standards, capability, knowledge, skills and expertise on how the government and businesses operate.
Speaking ahead of its 49th annual national conference in Lagos, CIPM’s Head of Strategy, Advocacy and Stakeholder Relations, Toyin Ojudun, said: “If we must have a sustainable national development, our workforce has to be right and for it to right, the people that manage those individuals need to have the capability, knowledge, skills and expertise to do that.”
The conference, which is slated for Tuesday, October 31 to Thursday, November 2, 2017 with the theme: Innovate, Empower, Engage, is expected to update HR practitioners’ knowledge and business delegates, strengthen their network and find solutions to topical contemporary business challenges.
Also speaking on the conference, Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the institute, Ajibola Ponle, said the theme will thoroughly explore, exploit and activate significant and specific industry issues and emerging trends in the human resource world that will create a paradigm shift in the way practitioners think and act.
Ponle said the conference would generate diverse and higher results, stating, “We need to innovate and confront the status quo in order to develop new ideas, new products and services, instead of repeating the same tools.
She added that the conference would be an avenue for acquiring new knowledge and up-scale and current knowledge on human resource management issues.
“It promises learning, networking, collaborations and engagement and remains the best and largest human resource conference with leading practitioners and line managers in the private and public sectors in West Africa,” she added.
