NB, Stanbic IBTC, others lift NSE indices by N89billions
The bulls upstaged the bears on the trading floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday, following price gains recorded by virtually all the blue chip companies, especially Nigerian Breweries (NB), and Stanbic IBTC, causing market capitalisation to soar by N89 billion.
Specifically, at the close of transactions yesterday, 25 stocks appreciated in price, led by Nigerian Breweries, adding 6.43 kobo to close at N137.60 per share. Stanbic IBTC followed with 1.85 kobo to close at N41.85. Dangote Cement rose by 1.00 kobo to close at N241 per share.
Cement Company of Northern Nigeria appreciated by 0.43 kobo to close at N9.40 per share. Global Spectrum Energy Services improved by 0.26 kobo to close at N5.51 per share.
Nigerian Aviation Handling Company and Eterna Oil garnered 0.20 kobo each to close at N4.29 and N4.21 per share respectively. Access Bank gained 0.19 kobo to close at N9.90 per share. Forte Oil appreciated by 0.15 kobo to close at N41.15 per share. African Prudential added 0.09 kobo to close at N3.86 per share. Fidelity Bank also gained 0.07 kobo to close at N1.81 per share.
However, 11 stocks constituted the losers’ chart, as Mobil Oil emerged the day’s highest price loser with a loss of 5.40 to close at N162.50 per share. Guinness trailed, shedding 1.42 kobo to close at N98.58 per share. PZ Cussons dipped by 1.00 kobo to close at N22.72 per share.
Okomu Oil lost 78 kobo to close at N67.22 per share. Dangote Sugar dropped 26 kobo to close at N17.55 per share. UAC-Properties shed 0.05 kobo to close at N2.61 per share. Fidson depreciated by 0.03 kobo to close at N3.80 per share. Sterling Bank, and AIICO Insurance each dropped 0.02 kobo to close at N0.98 and N0.54 kobo respectively. First City Monument Bank also lost 0.01 kobo to close at N1.06 per share.
Consequently, market capitalisation which opened at N12.972trillion rose by N89billion or 0.69 per cent to close at N13.061trillion. Also, the All-Share Index rose by 252.95 points or 0.68 per cent to close at 37,503.73 compared with 37,250.78 achieved on Monday.
The volume of shares traded closed higher, as investors exchanged 1.10 billion worth N4.80billion in 4,089 deals. This was in contrast with a total of 942.72 million shares valued at N4.78billion exchanged in 3,868 deals on Monday. Wapic Insurance emerged the most active, accounting for 655.35 million shares worth N327.67million.
Diamond Bank accounted for 68.21 million valued at N80.33million, while Zenith Bank traded 62.74 million shares worth N1.56billion. FBN Holdings exchanged 49.88 million shares valued at N346.49million, while Tantalizers sold 43.02 million shares worth N21.51million.
