ABSU admits 7,800 students, urges them to keep good company

Vice-chancellor, Abia State University (ABSU), Prof. Uche Ikonne, has advised the newly admitted 7,800 students not to keep an unhealthy company, warning that it is capable of halting their academic journey.

Ikonne spoke during the 38th matriculation of the school for the 2019/2020 academic session, was he also cautioned the freshmen to desist from every cult-related activity.

While congratulating them, he counseled them to stay away from companies capable of luring them into an illegal society that may cost them their lives and the loss of their studentship.

He encouraged them to join organisations that would enhance their physical and spiritual wellbeing as part of their personality development.

He further informed them that all forms of cultism and related activities are anathema to the university environment, as all students are guaranteed maximum protection from any form of molestation by the tight security network and firm administrative structure in the university.

“I have assumed the status of your senior course representative so as to remove all bureaucracies to attend to your problems. You can always, reach me via SMS only through my dedicated phone number which you will collect from the university public relations officer,” he added.
 
Ikonne further thanked the governor and visitor to the university, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, for his support to the university.

He also lauded him for the appointment of His Royal Highness, Professor James Ayatse, Tor-Tiv, as the Chancellor of the University, which has added to the success story of the school.

He also appreciated the support of the pro-chancellor, Senator Adolf Wabara, the governing council, management, senate, staff and students of the university to the success of his administration.

The VC urged the matriculating students to key into the mantra of his administration, which includes online course registration, competitive hard work, good dress code, among others, warning them to desist from all forms of examination malpractice, and belonging to any illicit organisation.
