Convicted vandal gets three years jail sentence in Abia
EEDC says vandalism is increasing
An Abia State Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Bende, has found one Mr. Onuorah Godswill guilty of stealing Bare Electric Conductor, property of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company EEDC located along Veterinary road in Okoko Item in Bende LGA of the state and sentenced him to three years imprisonment without any fine option.
The court presided over by Mr. Orgmore Ebubedike Kalu was told that Onuorah, who pleaded guilty to the charge, was arrested by some natives after vandalizing the stated item and that he pleaded guilty to the charge.
“This development is a clear indication that the plea by EEDC for stakeholders’ partnership and involvement in the protection of electrical installations within their neighborhood, is yielding the desired result, as vandals are being apprehended in their numbers by the various Vigilante groups across the South East,” said, Mr Chukwuemeka Ezeh, EEDC Head of Communications.
Eze told The Guardian that five men, identified as Chinedu Anike, Emenike Okoye, Chidera Nweke, Chukwu Onyekachi and Emmanuel Mathew, were recently apprehended for vandalizing an EEDC distribution substation located at Awgu in Enugu state, adding that the “suspects who confessed to committing the crime, have been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Enugu” for necessary action according to the law.
