Eminent jurists extol Ajomo’s virtues
Eminent jurists have extolled the virtues of a renowned professor of international law and ex-Director General (DG) of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS), late Michael Ajomo.
At a special session of tributes, organized in his honour by NIALS in collaboration with the faculty of law, University of Lagos (UNILAG), former judge of the international court of justice, Prince Bola Ajibola, Vice chancellor, UNILAG, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe and NIALS director general, Prof. Adedeji Adekunle (SAN) described the late don as a quintessential scholar.
Other dignitaries who paid tribute to late Ajomo include Vice chancellor, Lagos State University, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, immediate past DG of NIALS, Prof. Epiphany Azinge (SAN), Dean, faculty of law, UNILAG, Prof. Ayo Atsenuwa, former deputy governor of Delta State, Prof. Amos Utuama (SAN), Prof of International law, Akin Oyebade and a host of others.
Ogundipe, whose tribute was read by Prof. Duro Oni, said the late scholar served the University with distinction, adding that he was a great scholar of international repute.Ajibola described him as a quintessential legal juggernaut whose experience, knowledge, intellectualism and integrity is worthy of emulation.
For Adekunle, Ojomo unlocked the mysteries of laws of the sea. “He had a deep sense of justice and fairness and dealt with staff with fatherly mien. It was under his watch that the post graduate studies in legislative drafting was conceived,” he stated.
Atsenuwa said Ojomo served and provided leadership in UNILAG. “He is a man we can say built his great institute. What we want to do is to celebrate the life and times of this great icon,” she declared.“He was a great legal mind, consummate administrator, a man of integrity, a role model, teacher of teachers, who prepared the annotation of Nigerians laws. He drove the process vigorously,” said Azinge.
