Maltina teacher award jury lists assessment parameters
The panel of judges for the 2016 Maltina Teacher of the Year (MTOTY) award, has decided that profile of teacher, strategic approach to teaching, challenges encountered, resources utilised, among others, will form the core assessment parameters for this year’s edition
The Prof. Pat Utomi-led group, made the disclosure in Lagos, after a meeting to deliberate on the assessment scheme for the initiative, in order to ensure credibility and preserve the integrity of the award, Corporate Affairs Adviser of Nigerian Breweries Plc., Mr. Kufre Ekanem, explained that aside Kebbi and Zamfara states, teachers from 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory, are vying for honours in the second edition.
Ekanem said the project received hundreds of entries from participants across the country, after which the entries were shortlisted, validated and trimmed after a thorough and painstaking examination.
He said, “After scaling the project assessors’ hurdles, the panel of judges would subject the valid entries to further scrutiny and thorough assessment process, to determine who becomes the MTOTY. On October 20, 2016, the winners will be announced and celebrated at a grand event in Lagos. The best 10 entries will be invited for the grand finale where the panel will further subject the 10 finalists to rigorous scrutiny.”
Like last year, the 2016 winner will get N1m instantly, plus N1m every year for the next five years. The package also includes a development training opportunity abroad, and a block of classrooms built at the school where he/she teaches.
“It is our hope that through the Maltina Teacher of the Year initiative, we can inspire this nation to accord our teachers their deserved credit and bring back respect to the teaching profession in Nigeria,” Ekanem said.
