DSO train berths in Kwara, Kaduna
The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) will on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 and Friday, December 22, 2017 switch Kwara and Kaduna states from analogue transmission to Digital Terrestrial Television transmission.
The event in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Wednesday is scheduled to take place at the premises of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Channel 9, Fate Road, Ilorin, and that of Kaduna, Kaduna State on Friday will take place at the premises of the Pinnacle Broadcast Ltd, No 7, Rabah Road, GRA, Kaduna.
The Digital Switch Over (DSO) of the two locations (Kwara State with ITS Ltd as signal distributor and Kaduna State with Pinnacle Broadcasts Ltd as signal distributor), is in compliance with the Commission’s phased Digital Switch On timetable, tailored towards achieving the one – state – per – geo-political Zone in Nigeria, agreed upon by stakeholders in the broadcasting industry, to gradually achieve Digital Terrestrial Television services coverage all over Nigeria.
Yesterday, a statement signed by Head, Public Affairs of NBC, Mrs Maimuna Jimada quoted the Director General, NBC, Mallam Is’haq Modibbo Kawu assuring Nigerians that the switch-on will provide a mixture of local, regional and national television channels on the FreeTV bouquet.
He explained further that the choice of one state from each geo-political zone for the phased timetable of the switchover was deliberate in order to sustain the momentum.
According to Mallam Kawu, “Our goal is to enable the evolution of a digital television ecosystem that not only transforms television and broadcasting in general but also help bridge the digital divide, create jobs and grow our national economy.”
While thanking the Hon. Minister of Information and Culture Alhaji Lai Mohammed and the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari for their support so far, Kawu also thanks all stakeholders for their support in this arduous journey, and appeals for cooperation from all DSO stakeholders and Nigerians as the NBC does all within its means to successfully take Nigerian broadcasting onto the digital ecosystem.
