MICA’s sallah celebration style upholds family ties

For members of the Movement for Islamic Culture and awareness (MICA), the last Eid el Kabir festival was a memorable day as its Alimosho Usrah organized a special funfest to strengthening inter-personal relationship and family ties.

The Coordinator of Alimosho Usrah, Tunde Abdulsalam, in a chat with The Guardian said the organization is upholding the sunnah of the prophet through the creative way of celebrating the festival.

“Unlike in the past where you have the opportunity of meeting your family and friends during celebration, it is more strenuous in urban area like Lagos. After Eid prayer, every family troop back to their various apartments to celebrate with their nuclear family. That why we decided to create this avenue where Muslims can come together to relax and have fun.

“Family and friends come together to dine and relax in a conducive atmosphere and likewise members who have contributed immensely to the progress of the organization are rewarded” he said.

Abdusalam said, part of the programme put in place to make funfest a memorable event are; cooking competition among men, games for children and adult, couples game, bouncing castle, train rides and a host of others.

He said the major motive of the celebration was to encourage spirit of giving and sharing among families. During the event, families were urge to bring different cuisine to the event, which will be exchange with other families

He urged Muslim organizations to emulate the idea because Islam is not just about preaching, it is about living together in harmony.

“Islam is a way of life, it covers everything about human existence, it is only when you demonstrate that people will know that it is part of Islam to give and share with one another.

A MICA member, Gbadegesin Dawood, said Muslim organization should continue to organize such at this time of the year, saying this is a season of love, sacrifice and sharing.

“One thing about Islam is that family is very important from one family to another that what make the society; we should encourage more of this type of event,” he said.

He commended MICA and urged other Muslim organization to emulate what MICA as done to unite families so that all Muslim can connect together, saying “If do not connect we will disconnect.”

Hajia Aminat Amdalah urges all Muslims organization to unite and make the Islamic festival more elaborate and interesting.
