Muslim professionals harp on moral values to reduce social vices
The Association of Muslim Professionals (AMP) has called on Muslims to inculcate good moral values in their daily activities as enshrined in the Holy Quran and doings of the prophet (SAW) in order to reduce the incessant social vices in the society.
The President of AMP, Abimbola Abdul Rasheed Onisabi, said the organization is concerned about reforming the future for the betterment of the youth.
“A lot is happening in the society today, we have heard about so many social vices, which are perpetrated, in our society. Like exam malpractices, cultism, sexual abuse, parents impregnating their daughters.”
He noted that the so-called perpetrated vices in the society occur due to negligence at home, schools and the government but AMP will move to ensure sanity in the society by encouraging the home, the school and the government in fixing the hitches.
He added that lost of moral values in the home is traceable to divorce, situation whereby father have sexual intercourse with their daughters.
“You will notice that such happens in family were the wife has left leaving he children to the custody of their father. What is it in a daughter that will make a man want to sleep with his daughter? Something must be wrong with such a person.
He urged the Federal government to strive to implement moral values in the education curriculum.
“In those days when we were growing up, in schools we had inspectors coming around we also had subjects that teach about morals. In fact there was a time when they removed religious subject from school curriculum completely. We need religion to shape the mind of the youths, inform them the norms of the society, things expected of them to do and what they should not do. Religion teaches you how to relate with God, it also teaches you how to relate with others and parent,” he said.
The Chief Missioner of Nasrul Lahil-L-Fatih Society (NASFAT), and Imam Mahroof Abdulazeez Onike, said that Islam is not opposing any culture, as much as the culture is not in contrary to the sharia.
“Allah who has created us in different cultures, tribes and nations has His reasons for doing that. You can borrow from other cultures as far as the culture is not contrary to Islamic teachings. If you are allocating geography to culture, you are going to be dropping some good cultural value and embracing some bad cultural values.
He explained some values that Islam doesn’t encourage. “Whatever part of cultural value that is in contrary to shariah, even though you supported it with the Quran or hadith is not part of our religion. Whatever Allah say don’t do according to sharia is promotion of benefits and removal of harms.
“Whatever move one from justice to tyranny, from goodness to corruption, from wisdom to absurdity, from grace to hardship is not part of our religion even if you are quoting religious text to support it .
He noted that once the core value of any culture is good it worth imitating. “Every culture has a good and bad side,” he said.
