Nike release the third film in you can’t stop US Campaign

Nike has released the third film, You Can’t Stop Us, in its campaign of the same name to coincide with the NBA’s return.

The film, narrated by American soccer player Megan Rapinoe, was created to inspire athletes to keep using their voices and come together to create change.

“I believe it’s everybody’s responsibility to advocate for change,” said Rapinoe.

“We have all these people in the streets, using their voices, and those voices are being heard. I ask people to be energized by this moment and not let up. Players may be back on the pitch, but we are not going back to an old normal. We need to continue to reimagine this world and make it better,” she added.

Rapinoe delivers the rousing speech alongside a series of 36 split-screen scenes that splice together dynamic moves of pairs of athletes as if they are performing as one. A tennis forehand becomes a baseball swing; swimmers and runners get on their marks, seemingly side by side; a skateboarder making a sharp turn becomes a surfer riding a wave.

Nike said “The message was simple: Sport teaches us how to find the power within. No matter the opponent, no matter the lead, no matter the odds, the optimism and courage that defines the world of sport can also serve as a beacon of hope and resilience that inspires us all,”

Developed through research of more than 4,000 pieces of footage, the resulting montage underscores commonalities shared by athletes around the world, highlighting how resourceful and inventive post-production techniques can help create standout messages despite current pandemic restrictions on filmmaking.

Seen in the short film are Rapinoe, LeBron James, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappé, Naomi Osaka, Eliud Kipchoge, Caster Semenya, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Serena Williams and Colin Kaepernick.

“We know things won’t always go our way,” Rapinoe continues. “But whatever it is, we’ll find away. And when things aren’t fair, we’ll come together for change. And no matter how bad it gets, we will always come back stronger because nothing can stop what we can do together.”

The first chapter of the campaign was launched in March 2020 when Nike welcomed the athletes everywhere to “Play Inside” and “Play for the World” even at the peak of the coronavirus.

Nike said it worked to help athletes stay active while at home, enabling them through our services and inspiring them through the You Can’t Stop Us campaign.

Nike shifted its digital ecosystem – the Nike App, the Nike Running Club App, the Nike Training Club App, social channels, Nike.com and emails – on providing athletes the tools and motivation to help them stay active. The brand also offered weekly YouTube workouts; made premium Nike Training Club app content free in the U.S. and helped get millions of athletes* around the world moving. On 23 May, Nike launched the campaign’s second chapter which was narrated by LeBron James.

The second edition film was dubbed “Never Too Far Down” to help inspire all athletes that, together, we are capable of anything.

“The whole world, we’re fighting for something bigger than a championship right now. People are struggling and this continues to be an incredibly difficult time,” James said at that time.

Nike has a long history of speaking up for causes that reflect its values and are committed to breaking down barriers for athletes through our work with community partners.

In fact, Michael Jordan and Jordan Brand which is part of NIKE will be donating $100 million over the next 10 years to organizations dedicated to ensuring racial equality, social justice and greater access to education for youth.

Also in June, Nike announced a $40 million commitment over the next four years to support the Black community in the U.S. on behalf of the NIKE, Jordan and Converse brands collectively. This commitment will be focused on investing in and supporting organizations that put social justice, education and addressing racial inequality for Black Americans at the center of their work.
