Okowa tasks Nigerians on agriculture

Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa

Nigeria can put an end to hunger, create jobs and wealth if every hand is on deck in the transformation of the agricultural sector, by taking agric production and its value chain as a business and vital means of food security.

Delta State, Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, who disclosed this at the Charity Day and Agric Forum organised by Good Circle International Organisation (GCIO) with the support of GMH International Church, at Nigeria Labour Congress House, Asaba Delta State.

He said he is glad to identify with the organisation in its efforts.

Represented by Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Austine Chikezie, the governor who appreciated the drive of the organisation to celebrate farmers, said the forum is a clear indication that they are poised to assist Delta State Government with the right impetus to reposition its resources in the Niger Delta region toward a better economy and sustainable development.

On his part, the National Coordinator of OHYN, Engr. Esanerovo Agbodo, said if Nigeria is serious about getting people out of poverty, it must explore the gains of commercial and mechanised farming for every citizen who is interested in venturing into farming business, even without any start-up fund.

He said if only the rich get involved in commercial and mechanised farming, though it will increase the Gross Domestic Product of the economy, it will still be the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer, which is dangerous for the psychological equilibrium and safety of the society.
