Senior citizens advocate exercise for healthy living

Senior citizens, 70 years and above, under the umbrella of The Catholic Church of Presentation Parish, Festac town Lagos, have called on the general public to inculcate the spirit of exercising, highlighting the effects towards healthy living and prevention of ailments.

The Guardian gathered that the Parish made it a routine for the elderly ones to feel belonged in the sense that they can still live a normal healthy life irrespective of their age. The aerobics were also accompanied with health talks and checking of blood pressure so as to make sure they are mentally and physically stable for the process.

Sports coordinator of the parish, Vicmorrow Obiekwe, stated that the whole idea is to send a message to people, that exercise removes sickness from the body and also to help the elderly. “With the exercise and relaxation, they cannot do on their own and with time the younger ones will also be part of the whole process,” he said.

Obiekwe advocated that the government should include exercise in its activities even if it is every last Saturday’s of each month to encourage people within their locality to form a body and come together and work out. He also advised the government to make its presence felt by the indigenous people.
