UNIFEMGA to renovate OAU hall of residence mosques

Following the closure of the hall of residence Mosques of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile –Ife by the university authorities from the Muslim Students for misusing it, the Muslim Alumni body has promised to carry out comprehensive renovation of all the affected mosques.

The assurance is contained in a statement issued from the National Secretariat of Obafemi Awolowo University Muslim Graduates Association (UNIFEMGA) by Alhaji AbdulWaheed Odeyimka, President and Alhaji Mohammed Buari, PRO.

While calling for restraint of all parties involved, UNIFEMGA welcomed the handover of the Mosques in the halls of residence to the Chief Imam of the Muslim Community by the OAU Management.

“UNIFEMGA will in conjunction with the Muslim Community urgently embark on the renovation of the Mosques and put in place proper protocol for the use of the Mosques and appointment of the Hall Mosque officials’’.

“We urge all members of the Muslim Community of OAU including all our Muslim Students that in the spirit of the on-going fast of the month of Ramadan to continue to work for the peace and well being of the Ummah’’, the statement added.

It also implored all her members to support the UNIFEMGA in ensuring that the process results in the final resolution of the crisis.

The Alumni body also commended the positive intervention of the crisis by Prof. Daud Noibi –led Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) panel on the directive of
Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, which led to the peace accord binding on all the stakeholders.

Among the resolutions was the re-establishment of the authority and control of all the Mosques within the University under the leadership of the OAU Chief Imam, Prof. Abubakr Sanusi.

It would be recalled that in line with the peace accord, the University authority on Sunday closed down two Mosques of Awolowo and Fajuyi Hall of Residence, which the students had turned to residential where children are being raised as against places of worship.
