Verve life engages Nigerians on fitness, exercise, diet to reduce NCD
With the impressive economic growth, rapid urbanization and changing life style due to growing influence of westernization and diet, experts have call for more fitness and regular exercise, healthy nutrition among Nigerians.
According to report, majority of Nigerians engage in sedentary lifestyle, consume unhealthy diet, which results to the high incidence of Non-Communicable diseases in Nigeria, such as cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, stroke among others They made the call at the Verve Life maiden annual fitness, fun, healthy food and living programme, which brought Nigerians together to work out, exercise and network. The experts stressed that working out and exercising regularly keep the body healthy as well as mental alertness and stability.
The Co-Founder, The Wellness Orbit and Wellness Consultant, Afolabi Shokoni, said Nigerians are used to sedentary lifestyle and need to exercise more often as chemoreceptor is released, which enhances the body and brain.
“When you exercise and eat right, your body secretes chemoreceptive which enable you balance mentally and physically and it you start to work out, you can reduce the risk of NCD,” he said.
He added that making exercise and fitness as a regular routine keeps one away from hospitals and also balances life.
Shokoni added that most people are unaware of the benefits of exercise, which calls for more awareness.
He advised Nigerians to engage in more brisk walks, jogging and other physical activities to aid their immune system, improve the oxygen flow, better circulation and prevention of diseases.
Also speaking, the marketing Manager, Verve International, Enyioma Anaba said the event is created for health enthusiasts and aims at bringing Nigerians together as most of them hardly find time to work out themselves, adding the organization focus on the well being of its customers.
She said the bad lifestyle choices made by Nigerians, which exposes them to diseases, triggered the move to startup the event.
“What we are doing is to help our customers facilitate that healthy living. We have identified the particular challenge and we discovered that people like fun; so we use fun, entertainment as a means of getting people to engage in fitness, exercise and also to network, as our aim is to ensure our customers live healthy, because health is wealth,” she added.
The Marketing Manager, Interswitch Master Brand, Olaide Akanni said their aim is to assist customers imbibe a good and healthy living, which is why it is championing the fitness programme by Verve life.
The event also had dance class from Kaffy, Yoga, martial arts, strength and conditioning, as well as Zumba sessions, with over 2000 participant.
