Everything you need to live well

Sneak Some Fun Into Your Valentine’s Day

After a January that seemed to drag on forever, we’re finally in February, the unofficial month of love. We’ve ditched our dowdy monochromes for some vibrant reds and white and have spent all weekend looking through Instagram boutiques for that perfect present that says “I love you” with just the right amount of subtlety as we count down to Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s Day is a good excuse as any to express oneself intimately and what better way to do this than dressing up. No matter what your plans are on the forthcoming day of love, we’ve compiled a cheat sheet for how to look fabulous and make a stylish statement without wearing white and red. There’s absolutely no reason for you not to have fun with your day.

Stay on theme but soften up your reds

Vibrant reds seem to be the order of the day during Valentine’s but we wouldn’t recommend investing in a red frock or blazer for Cupid’s day.  They can be pretty difficult to incorporate into an everyday wardrobe after all. What you can do, however, is soften up your reds by going for a more muted colour. Water down your enthusiasm by going for a pretty pastel pink like this gorgeous one shoulder Imad Eduso SS17 dress, or an electric fuchsia if you still want a pop to your look.

Accents are just as good as the real thing

Every fashion lover knows that, sometimes, just a hint of the effect you are going for can pack more of a punch than going all out and overdosing on the look and colour you want. This is especially true of Valentine’s day, which sadly isn’t a real holiday. You still have to go to work or school and pretend to want to be anywhere but with the love of your life. But that doesn’t mean you can’t wear your heart on your sleeve. You can go on the nose with a Bridget Awosika heart blouse, or be a little subtler with pink or red accented pants.

The little details matter

Valentine’s Day is all about the little things. While you might not want to be overt with your concession to our favourite non-holiday, it doesn’t mean you can’t sneak in a fun homage or two into your wardrobe through your accessories. Heart-shaped earrings and a funky necklace are one

way to go about this, but a fun pair of heels is always a win. Sophia Webster has all but cornered the market in that regard and these funky, heart-shaped PVC slingbacks are as good a reason as any to dress up for that Valentine date.
