3 arraigned for alleged abduction
The Police in Ogun on Thursday arraigned three men before an Ota Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly abducting one Maria Shofolahan.
The accused, Idowu Olupinla, 56, Femi Temiye, 24, and Oluwafemi Okiki, 36, with no fixed addresses, are facing a two-count charge of abduction and conspiracy.
The Prosecutor, Cpl. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the accused persons and others at large, committed the offences on Jan. 20 at about 10:40 p.m. at Ijoko, Ota.
He said that the accused and his accomplices conspired among themselves to abduct 18-year-old Maria Shofolahan.
Mustapha said the offences contravened Section 361 of the Criminal Code Cap. 29, Vol. 11, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty of the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.I. Adelaja, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N250, 000 each and two sureties each in like sum.
She ordered that the sureties should swear to an affidavit of means and should produce two years` tax clearance payment to Ogun Government.
Adelaja also directed that one of the sureties must be an owner of landed property, while the other one should be a community leader within the magisterial district.
She also ordered that the addresses of the sureties should be verified by the Police and adjourned the case till April 4 for hearing.
