Abia monarch wants govt to disarm herdsmen, probe source of arms
Worried by the rising reports of killings of innocent people by Fulani herdsmen in parts of the country, a Veteran journalist and traditional ruler in Abia State, Eze Cletus Uwadiegwu Ogbonnaya, has urged the Federal Government to immediately begin the process of disarming them.
Ogbonnaya also urged government to find the source of their arms acquisition like AK 47 Riffles. The monarch, who is the traditional of Umuanyi, host community of Abia State State University, Uturu, debunked the report credited to the Department of State Services (DSS), that the five Fulani herdsmen reportedly abducted by suspected IPOB members were killed and buried in his Umuanyi forest.
He expressed worry that the said allegation has created fear in his community where the university students and workers reside.
He urged that his community be saved from possible harm and attack in the hands of these rampaging herdsmen.
The monarch clarified that alleged “spot of abduction, killing and burial in shallow graves, is more than five kilometers from Ugwanyi Autonomous Community, adding we do not share boundary with either Ihube, Imo State or Ngodo Uturu in Abia State.”
