American found dead in hotel room
An American, Charles Carlson, was yesterday found lifeless in his hotel room at Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
The Lagos State Police Command has, however, described the incident as ‘Sudden and Unnatural Death’ (SUD). The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, has ordered full-scale investigation into the death.
The Guardian gathered that the death of the American at Ellyx Vile Hotel, located at No 8, African Line Lekki Phase 1, was rather ‘mysterious’.
The foreigner was found dead around 5:35p.m. Police detectives at the Maroko police station were immediately alerted.
The Divisional Police Officer, Abdulmajid raced to the scene where the body of the deceased was removed.
According to spokesperson of the command, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent of Police, “we received a situation report of sudden and unnatural death of a foreign national. Vincent Owunke, a manager with Ellyx Vile Hotel, reported that one of the guests, Charles Carlson, an American, aged 57, died in the hotel.
“He told detectives that they noticed he did not come out for breakfast. Telephone calls to his mobile and hotel intercom were not picked, which prompted them to call his business partner.
“The door was forced open and he was found motionless. He hung himself with a rope close to the door. Detectives from Maroko division visited the scene and the corpse was evacuated to the mortuary.
“The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, has directed the case to be transferred to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti for discreet investigation.”
