ANN crisis worsens as NEC postpones primaries
• Olawepo-Hashim Restates Commitment
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN), yesterday postponed the party’s presidential primaries earlier scheduled for yesterday to Wednesday October 3, 2018, saying the guidelines for the national convention must be ratified before any primary could hold.
However, a faction of the party led by Mr. Dania Emmanuel, insisted on holding the presidential primary yesterday despite the position of NEC that the move was in contravention of the party’s constitution.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, at the weekend, the party’s NEC said it would meet Saturday night to ratify the guidelines, disclosing that after the meeting, a proper convention would then follow on Wednesday October 3, 2018.
The presidential aspirant of the party, Mr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, who also spoke at the press briefing, said he remains on course to clinch the party’s presidential ticket, regretting that some remnants of the infamous Abacha dictatorial era were threatening to hijack the party.
