APC calls for religious harmony
• Wakili donates N3 million for feeding in Bauchi
The All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday, enjoined Muslim faithful across the country to promote religious harmony, tolerance and peaceful co-existence among the various religious affiliations.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Secretary, Mai Mala Buni, he urged religious leaders to rededicate themselves to the worship of God and service to humanity.
The party described the period as worth identifying with, as it marked the beginning of the holy month, which the Holy Qur’an revealed as a period of blessing and mercy to all mankind.
Buni also urged Muslims to use the period of this year’s fasting to pray for the peace, development and prosperity of the country.
He assured Nigerians that the implementation of palliative measures and social safety nets contained in the 2016 National Budget would ease the economic hardships in the country.
According to the party, “As the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration works assiduously to build a new solid foundation, credible image and pull the country out of the present hardships, the APC appeals for patience and cooperation from Nigerians.
The party called on Nigerians “to pray and support the administration, as it continues to develop and implement its development initiatives for the good of the country.”
Meanwhile, Chairman, Senate Committee on Poverty Alleviation, Ali Wakili, yesterday donated the sum of three million naira to 23 mosques for feeding during the period.
Speaking at the disbursement of the funds at the central mosques, Wakili said that his main targets are the downtrodden who have nothing to eat during the fasting period.
He was represented by Special Assistant to the Speaker, House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara, Mohammed Aliyu Songay, who said the gesture would soon extend to several mosques in the Bauchi south senatorial district.
He said some mosques would get N150, 000 while others would get N150, 000 each.
“Because of the hardship facing the people in the state, we have to bring our little token to help people during the Ramadan, especially the physically challenged and the Almajiris,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Shehu Musa said Wakili has proven to be a man of his words.
He called on other Muslims especially the rich, to emulate the good legacies of the senator, while assuring that the funds would be use judicially for what they were earmarked for.
The beneficiaries included, Bauchi Central mosques, Wuntin Dada, Babagana Bauchi, Fadaman Mada, Gwallaga, Sheik Tahir and Yelwa Jumat mosques
