APC, PDP react in Kwara
Mixed reactions trailed yesterday’s postponement of the presidential and National Assembly elections in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Governorship candidate of Labour Party (LP) in the state, Issa Aremu and Kayode Oyin Zubir, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), reacted.
Aremu, who decried the news, believes the development could spur INEC to discharge its duties efficiently.
Zubir said it was a setback to whatever progress the electoral body had made in the past. He urged his party members to be optimistic.
Aremu said: “We read the speech of INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu with mixed feelings. While we await further details after INEC’s meeting with key stakeholders to update them on this development at 2p.m. today (Saturday), Labour Party is ready and willing to partner with it for successful rescheduled the elections.”
For Zubir, the postponement was not only unfortunate but also least expected.
He said: “Nigeria’s democracy is growing and should be allowed to be deepened in a way that every participant will have confidence and trust.”
