Osun State governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has charged Mr. AbdulWaheed Odusile, who recently emerged as the new president of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), on professionalism and fairness.

Aregbesola urged Odusile to strive to set standards that would inspire journalists to discharge assignments with dignity.

In a statement by the Director, Bureau of Communication and Strategy, Office of the Governor, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, Aregbesola congratulated Odusile on his victory, urging him to ensure the promotion of the sanctity of fairness and truth in journalism as a major agenda of his tenure.

Aregbesola also admonished Odusile to ensure adequate professional conduct among journalists, adding that with the new leadership of union, professionalism must be the hallmark of every member as Nigeria enters into the era of change.

The governor asked Odusile to prioritise the training and re-training of journalists, urging him to ensure the promotion of developmental journalism in the country.

According to him: “Odusile no doubt, has huge task before him. And this is to ensure that he struggles to ensure that journalists discharge their duties with all the fairness, truth and sense of responsibility required in a just society. ”
