Assembly denies endorsing Okorocha’s son-in-law for governor
A member of the House, Henry Ezediaro, reportedly claimed that Nwosu who is the chief of staff, Government House, Owerri was endorsed by the 27 lawmakers.
In a programme yesterday on an Owerri- based private radio station, Darling FM, Ihim said the House under his leadership was only constitutionally empowered to make laws and not to endorse candidates for political parties. He debunked the claim that the 27 members donated 27 buses, daring the governor to bring Nwosu for the position.
‘’That is unthinkable, it is the height of madness. Imo State House of Assembly is not a political party. It is an institution established for law making and making resolutions that will impact positively on the lives of people of Imo State and Nigeria by extension. For that we do not have any business with endorsement, not endorsing Nwosu, not endorsing anybody for that matter.
“We are at a loss that such came as a news that the 27 members of the House, which comprises not only All Progressives Congress (APC) members, but opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) endorsed Nwosu. How can that be?” he queried.
The speaker maintained that preference for Nwosu by anybody should not have been taken to that extent, stating that a committee would be raised to investigate the matter.
‘’Anybody can prefer anybody, that is personal, but for a House of Assembly to come at the plenary to adopt or endorse anybody at a meeting or an executive session is unimaginable. It has never happened.
“I want to think that Ezediaro was quoted out of contest, because I don’t think that anybody in his right senses, who is an honourable member, can say such a thing. But I want to make it abundantly clear that no such thing happened and no such thing will ever happen. We are not a political party. We are not there to endorse anybody. ‘’
He expressed regret that the action of the lawmaker had ridiculed the House. ‘’I am particularly embittered about that.’’ he said.
