Bayelsa vows to fish out ghost workers in payroll of LGCs

The Bayelsa government on Sunday reiterated its commitment to rid local government councils of ghost workers by executing the ongoing staff verification to a logical conclusion.

Mrs Agatha Goma the Commissioner for Local Government Administration, made the remark on Sunday in Yenagoa in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

She said that the conduct of the exercise in the local government councils had reached advanced stage and would soon be concluded.

The verification is yielding the desired results; it will assist us to plug the wastages we discovered in the payroll of local government councils in Bayelsa.

The verification teams in each of the local government councils have concluded their aspect of the assignment and we are working on the reports they submitted which formed the new basis for payment of salary.

When the exercise is concluded, we shall be in a position to quantify the number of ghost workers and the amount saved from the verification,’’ she said.

Goma assured that valid complaints from the verification and payment of staff salaries would be addressed to ensure that genuine workers of the councils were paid their salaries.

She commended local government workers for their understanding and orderliness during the verification and payment of staff salaries.
