Celebration galore at Gbagada Hospital
WHILE many Nigerians stayed at home with their families or visited friends to enjoy the Yuletide, members of the Rotary Club of Gbagada, led by its President, Lanre Akintilo, celebrated Christmas with patients at Gbagada General Hospital.
It was happiness and hilarious joy that filled the air in the hospital premises as members of staff joined in the singing and dancing, as the Rotary delegation moved from ward to ward, which had in attendance Director, Medical Services, Lagos State, Dr. Atinuke Onayiga, who represented the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris; Chief Medical Director, Gbagada General Hospital, Dr. Tayo Lawal; and Apex Nurse, Abosede Oluwabuyide.
The party train not only danced through each ward to lift up the spirit of all the patients, but also shared gift packs to wish them a merry Christmas and quick recovery.
The occasion also had some hospital staff rewarded for exemplary performance during the year. Female Ward came first and lifted the trophy with Maternity Ward as the runner up while Male Ward came third. The best junior worker was Mr. Muyili Ramoni, who was praised for his courage to take care of an abandoned accident victim brought by the police to the hospital.
Dr. Popoola Olalekan carried the day as the best doctor. He was described as efficient, hardworking, proficient, loyal, enthusiastic and ready to sacrifice his own as well as his family’s convenience to take care of patients. Members of the hospital attested to his outstanding performance by hailing him when his name was mentioned for the recognition.
Mrs. Onayiga said the occasion was necessary to empathise with those on hospital bed at Christmas. “We praise God that we are celebrating the birth of the precious gift unto mankind, Jesus Christ, with those who are not privileged to be in their homes to celebrate the Yuletide.
“Ordinarily, we too would have been in our various homes with our families but we opted to be here to make those on the hospital bed feel happy and loved.”
Past District Governor, Remi Adewunmi, said the hospital was adopted as far back as 1984 and named its signature project. Past Disctrict Governor, Deinde Shoga, Assistant Governor Lanre Kazim, Past President, Bayo Windapo, Rotarian Nike Abdul-Azeez, among others were present to add zest to the occasion.
