Court arraigns octogenarian, two others for alleged forgery in Delta

The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and were granted bail in the sum of N200, 000 by the presiding Chief Magistrate, Felix Dike.

An octogenarian, Godwin Echilieb, and two others were yesterday arraigned at Asaba Magistrate Court in Delta State for alleged forgery and conspiracy.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector John Okoh, told the court that the accused persons on October 31, 2013, forged the signature of one Frank Halim without his consent, thereby committed an offence punishable under section 476 of the criminal code law cap, C21 Vol. 1 Laws of Delta State of Nigeria 2006.

The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and were granted bail in the sum of N200, 000 by the presiding Chief Magistrate, Felix Dike.

Meanwhile, the Police in Asaba also arraigned a 19-year-old Newton Adim for holding a two-year-old boy, Emmanuel Friday hostage for two days.

Okoh, told the Court that the accused person on July 30, 2017 held the boy hostage, depriving his parents access to him, an offence punishable under section 365 of the criminal code law cap c21, vol. 1 laws of Delta State of Nigeria 2006.

The accused also pleaded not guilty, and Chief Magistrate Dike granted him bail in the sum of N300, 000.

In another development, armed robbers attacked a middle-aged woman at Nkpanya Street, Asaba yesterday morning and made away with her television set, handsets and N25, 000 cash.

It was gathered that the armed attacked the woman in her room and ran away with her property

Narrating her ordeal, the woman said: The robbers took everything from me at gunpoint and made away with my property. I have reported the matter to the policeā€.
