Court Sentences Project Engineer To Four Years Imprisonment
A magistrate court sitting in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State yesterday, sentenced a member of the Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), to four years imprisonment for mismanaging over N214 million belonging to his employer, Speed Engineering Concept.
Temgu Belamo, who is also a registered member of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), was indicted in acts ranging from “misappropriation, cheating, theft and mischief.”
In his ruling, the presiding judge, Dikko I. Dikko, felt sad that Belamo, who ought to live by example by ensuring transparency and accountability in his profession and the society at large, “is the one doing the contrary.”
Alhough the convict was left with options of fines in three out of the four charges, he still has no escape route, as he would still have to serve one year jail term for one of the charges.
While Beloma was sentenced on the offence of criminal misappropriation without an option of fine, he was however lucky on the sentence on the offences of theft, criminal breach of trust and mischief, as he was left with various options of fines.
