As the country marks its 56h independence anniversary and Ebonyi celebrates its 20th years of the creation, Governor David Umahi yesterday paid glowing tribute to former head of state, the late Gen. Sani Abacha, and other former leaders of the state for making dream of the people come through by their actions.

Addressing the people in a live media chat as part of activities marking the celebrations, Umahi commended Abacha for being an instrument for the realisation of the dream of the founding fathers of the state.

He also expressed gratitude to past leaders of the state, such as Navy Commander Walter Feghabor (rtd), the late Assistant Inspector general of Police (AIG), Simeon Oduoye (rtd), Senator Sam Egwu and Chief Martin Elechi for their efforts in repositioning the state.

The governor said the state has come of age and on the threshold of making history in conquering its fears by taking the challenges of building a modern state with state-of-art infrastructure and developing all sectors of the economy.

He called on the federal government to ban the importation of food and other edible commodities, saying Nigeria must produce its own food.”
