Ekiti Assembly bars PDP lawmaker for six weeks over alleged misconduct

Ekiti Assembly

The Ekiti State Assembly House of Assembly yesterday banned former Deputy Speaker and member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Adewumi, representing Ekiti West Constituency I for six weeks for alleged legislative misconduct.

The suspension of the former deputy speaker was attributed to his undue interruption of the Speaker, Adeniran Alagbada, while presiding over the House at the plenary yesterday.

Following altercation between the two high profile members of the legislative arm, the Speaker was said to have exercised his powers and banned him in accordance with Section 17 of the House Standing Order.

The Speaker said the former deputy speaker during the period of his suspension would be prevented from participating in any plenary session, but could only involve in off-plenary activities of the House.

In another development, the PDP in Bayelsa State has called on its members to shun any act capable of robbing the party of its deserved victory in the coming governorship election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had slated Saturday, November 2, 2019 for the governorship election in the state.

The party, during an expanded SEC meeting, which had in attendance Governor Henry Seriake Dickson and other party chieftains, described the coming election as an isolated one and as a result, all hands must be on deck at ensuring that the party records a landslide victory.

It frowned at the activities of some of its members during the previous elections and cautioned against the repeat of such ignoble act, noting that the task before it is enormous.

A statement by the Director of Strategic Communication, Governor’s Office, Chief Nathan Egba Ologo, quoted the governor to have warned against anti-party activities on the part of the members.

Meanwhile, a chairmanship aspirant, Alfa Fidelis, from Igalamela/Adolu Local Government, has said that the PDP will win the governorship election come November 2, 2019.

Fidelis is contesting in the party’s congress billed for next month where he hopes to win and take over the leadership of the party in the state.

The aspirant, who spoke at the PDP secretariat in Lokoja yesterday when he came to declare his intention to vie for the position, said the party was overwhelmed by militancy, thuggery and rigging deployed in the last general election.

He said to achieve that feat would be through hardwork.
