Economic experts under the aegis of Professional Services Group, an arm of the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) have proffered ways to beat the current economic recession in the country.

This was part of discussions at a business forum held in Lagos on the theme: “Business Sustainability in Nigeria: Matters Arising.” The group urged Nigerians to cut costs and retain only essential strategies that would keep businesses running.

Speaking at the event, Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, represented by the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Akinyemi Ashade, disclosed plans by the state government to implement policies to ease the cost of doing business in the state.

According to Ambode, the challenge of policy inconsistency is being addressed to attain the trust of business owners, stressing that there is need to review what we need and consume and what we don’t need, but consume.

In his presentation, the guest speaker, chief executive officer of Sahara Group, Tonye Cole said the current recession in the country should be seen as an opportunity. He, however, said the masses should be innovative and spend only on essential things.

Cole called on the chamber of commerce and other trade associations in the country to use their platforms to build collaborations within and outside the continent that would create new businesses, saying that Nigeria needs cross border business relations now than before.
President and Chairman of Council, Dapo Adelegan, in his remark, decried the lack of visionary leaders who are concerned about the future of the country.
